The Carson County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Panhandle .

geography

The county is located north of the geographic center of Texas in the Texas Panhandle and is approximately 120 km to the north and east of the border with Oklahoma and to the west of New Mexico . It has an area of ​​2393 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Hutchinson County , Gray County , Armstrong County, and Potter County .

history

Carson County was formed from parts of Bexar County on June 21, 1876 and finally organized on June 26, 1888. It was named after Samuel Price Carson , a member of the United States House of Representatives and first Secretary of State for the Republic of Texas .

The Carson County Square House Museum is one of the county's three entries in the NRHP.

Three buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of October 17, 2018).

After the census in 2000, lived in Carson County 6,516 people; 2,470 households and 1,884 families were counted. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 93.8 percent white, 0.6 percent African American, 1.0 percent Native American, 0.1 percent Asian and 3.1 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.4 percent were descended from two or more races. 7.0 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 2,470 households, 35.8 percent had children or young people living with them. 65.3 percent were married couples living together, 8.1 percent were single mothers, and 23.7 percent were non-families. 22.3 percent were single households and 11.3 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.04 people.

27.9 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 6.2 percent between 18 and 24, 26.3 percent between 25 and 44, 23.9 percent between 45 and 64 and 15.7 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 95.8 males and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 92.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $ 40,285 , and the median income for a family is $ 47,147. Males had a median income of $ 34,271 versus $ 23,325 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,368. 5.4 percent of families and 7.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
