The Stonewall County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is Aspermont .
geography
The county is located about 150 km north of the geographic center of Texas and 100 km to the north from the Oklahoma border. It has an area of 2383 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: King County , Haskell County , Jones County , Fisher County, and Kent Counties .
history
Stonewall County was formed in 1876 from parts of Bexar County and Young County . It was named after Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson , a general in the Confederate Army .

According to the 2000 census , Stonewall County had 1,693 people in 713 households and 492 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 88.25 percent white, 2.95 percent African American, 0.35 percent Native American, 0.35 percent Asian and 6.44 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.65 percent were descended from two or more races. 11.75 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 713 households, 26.4 percent had children or young people living with them. 56.5 percent were married couples living together, 8.8 percent were single mothers and 30.9 percent were non-families. 29.0 percent were single households and 15.1 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.83 people.
22.8 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 6.2 percent between 18 and 24, 22.6 percent between 25 and 44, 24.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 24.0 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 90 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 91.1 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 27,935 , and the median income for a family is $ 35,571. Males had a median income of $ 27,083 versus $ 15,000 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,094. 14.8 percent of families and 19.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
