The Kent County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Jayton . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located northwest of the geographic center of Texas and covers an area of 2,339 square kilometers, of which 2 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Dickens County , Stonewall County , Fisher County , Scurry County, and Garza County .
history
Kent County was formed on August 21, 1876 from parts of Bexar County and Young County . The administrative organization was completed on November 8, 1892. It was named after Andrew Kent (1798–1836), a soldier in the Texas Army who died in the Battle of the Alamo .
One place in the county is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of March 12, 2020, the First National Bank Building .

According to the 2000 census , Kent County's population was 859 people in 353 households and 247 families. The population density was 0 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.46 percent white, 0.23 percent African American, 0.35 percent Native American and 3.73 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.23 percent were descended from two or more races. 9.08 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 353 households, 26.1 percent had children or young people living with them. 61.2 percent were married couples living together, 5.9 percent were single mothers and 30.0 percent were non-families. 28.0 percent were single households and 14.2 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.83 people.
20.6 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 5.4 percent between 18 and 24, 21.8 percent between 25 and 44, 26.8 percent between 45 and 64 and 25.5 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 47 years. For every 100 females there were 91.7 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 91.6 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 30,433 , and the median income for a family is $ 35,568. Males had a median income of $ 23,875 versus $ 20,000 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,626. 9.2 percent of families and 10.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
