The Baylor County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Seymour .

The county is located in northern Texas, about 60 km from the Oklahoma border and has an area of 2334 square kilometers, of which 78 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Wilbarger County , Wichita County , Archer County , Young County , Throckmorton County , Haskell County , Knox County, and Foard Counties .
history
Baylor County was formed from parts of Fannin County on February 1, 1858 , and the administrative organization was completed on April 12, 1879. It was named after Henry Weidner Baylor (1818-1854), a field doctor for the Texas Rangers during the Mexican-American War .

As of the 2000 census , Baylor County had 4,093 people in 1,791 households and 1,156 families. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 90.96 percent white, 3.35 percent African American, 0.59 percent Native American, 0.51 percent Asian, 0.12 percent from the Pacific island area and 3.32 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.15 percent were descended from two or more races. 9.33 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 1,791 households, 25.2 percent had children or young people living with them. 53.5 percent were married, couples living together, 8.2 percent were single mothers and 35.4 percent were non-families. 33.3 percent were single households and 19.2 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.26 and the average family size was 2.86 people.
23.4 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 5.5 percent between 18 and 24, 21.4 percent between 25 and 44, 25.6 percent between 45 and 64 and 24.1 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females there were 89.5 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 86.7 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 24,627 , and the median income for a family is $ 34,583. Males had a median income of $ 21,607 versus $ 19,571 for females. The per capita income was 16,384. 16.1 percent of the population 12.9 percent of the families lived below the poverty line.
