The county is located in the far east of Texas at the confluence of the Sabine River and the Neches River with Sabine Lake . The Sabine River and Sabine Lake, a lagoon on the Gulf of Mexico , form the border with Louisiana . It has an area of ​​923 square kilometers, of which 60 square kilometers are water. history

Orange County was formed on February 5, 1852 from former parts of Jefferson County. The name of the county is descriptive and refers to a certain orange grove on the Neches River .

Seven structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of March 27, 2020, including the Joseph and Annie Lucas House , the Sims House, and the WH Stark House .

As of the 2010 census , Orange County had 81,837 people in 32,790 households. The population density was 88.7 inhabitants per square kilometer.

The racial the population was composed of 86.1 percent white, 8.5 percent African American, 0.5 percent Native American, 1.0 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 1.7 percent were descended from two or more races.
