The Ward County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is Monahans .
geography
The county is located in western Texas and is located in the north about 25 km off the southeastern tip of New Mexico . It has an area of 2165 square kilometers, of which 1 square kilometer is water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Winkler County , Ector County , Crane County , Pecos County , Reeves County, and Loving County .
history
Ward County was formed in 1887 from parts of Tom Green County . It was named after Thomas William Ward , a real estate administration president, soldier during the Texan Revolution, and a mayor of Austin .

According to the 2000 census , Ward County had 10,909 people in 3,964 households and 2,929 families. The population density was 13 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 79.79 percent white, 4.61 percent African American, 0.66 percent Native American, 0.28 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 12.52 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.11 percent were descended from two or more races. 41.98 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 3,964 households, 36.6 percent had children or adolescents living with them. 58.8 percent were married couples living together, 11.6 percent were single mothers and 26.1 percent were non-families. 23.6 percent were single households and 12.3 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.66 and the average family size was 3.15 people.
30.6 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.8 percent between 18 and 24, 25.1 percent between 25 and 44, 22.2 percent between 45 and 64 and 14.3 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 99.8 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 92.3 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 29,386 , and the median income for a family is $ 36,014. Males had a median income of $ 31,373 versus $ 18,198 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,393. 15.8 percent of families and 17.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
