The Kleberg County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Kingsville .
geography
The county is located in southeast Texas, borders the Gulf of Mexico to the east and has an area of 2,824 square kilometers, of which 568 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Nueces County , Kenedy County , Brooks County, and Jim Wells County .
history
Kleberg County was formed on February 27, 1913 from parts of Nueces County. It was named after Robert Justus Kleberg (1803–1888), an early German settler and soldier at the Battle of San Jacinto . Later he was chief judge in Austin County and raised a regiment for the Confederate States Army in 1861 , in which he no longer served due to his advanced age.
Seven buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of March 15, 2020, with the King Ranch having the status of a National Historic Landmark .

As of the 2000 census , Kleberg County had 31,549 people in 10,896 households and 7,681 families. The population density was 14 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 71.87 percent white, 3.70 percent African American, 0.61 percent Native American, 1.47 percent Asian, 0.10 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 19.00 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 3.25 percent were descended from two or more races. 65.41 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 10,896 households, 34.9 percent had children or young people living with them. 52.1 percent were married couples living together, 13.9 percent were single mothers and 29.5 percent were non-families. 22.3 percent were single households and 7.6 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.78 and the average family size was 3.30 people.
27.3 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 15.7 percent between 18 and 24, 27.4 percent between 25 and 44, 19.0 percent between 45 and 64 and 10.6 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 29 years. For every 100 females there were 101 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 98.5 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 29,313 , and the median income for a family is $ 33,055. Males had a median income of $ 31,179 versus $ 19,494 for females. The per capita income was $ 13,542. 21.2 percent of families and 26.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
