The Glasscock County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Garden City .
geography
The county is located northwest of the geographic center of Texas, about 100 km from the southeastern border with New Mexico , and covers an area of 2,333 square kilometers with no significant body of water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Howard County , Sterling County , Reagan County , Midland County, and Martin County .
history
Glasscock County was formed on April 4, 1887 from parts of Tom Green County . The administrative organization was completed on March 28, 1893. It was named after George Washington Glasscock (1810–1868), who in 1832 operated a ferry service with a flatboat together with Abraham Lincoln on the Sangamon River . Shortly thereafter, he took part in the Black Hawk War and was a member of the State Legislature of Texas from 1866 to 1872 .
One structure in the county is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of May 30, 2019, the Glasscock County Courthouse and Jail .

According to the 2000 census , Glasscock County had 1,406 people in 483 households and 355 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 77.5 percent white, 0.5 percent African American, 0.1 percent Native American, 0.2 percent from the Pacific island area and 19.1 percent from other ethnic groups; 2.5 percent were from two or more races. 29.9 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 483 households, 42.0 percent had children or young people living with them. 67.5 percent were married couples living together, 2.9 percent were single mothers and 26.5 percent were non-families. 23.8 percent were single households and 7.0 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.91 and the average family size was 3.51 people.
33.5 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.1 percent between 18 and 24, 28.4 percent between 25 and 44, 22.0 percent between 45 and 64 and 9.0 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 108.9 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 113 males.
The median income for a household in the 35,655 USD , and the median income for a family was 43,000 USD. Males had a median income of $ 27,000 versus $ 27,083 for women. The per capita income was 18,279. 14.7 percent of the population (11.5 percent of families) lived below the poverty line.

In the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections , the Republican Party, with candidates George W. Bush and Dick Cheney in Glasscock County, achieved its best nationwide results at the county level (92% in 2000, 91% in 2004).
