A flat boat is a type of boat that has a flat bottom instead of a keel . The flattening of the lower hull profile enables navigability in shallow waters. The immersion depth of the hull (underwater hull) is thus less than if a keel were present. In northern Germany, this type of boat was to the 19th century, mainly used in the transport of the moors engraved peat on the specially created channels . The drive was carried out by pinning by hand. In the 18th century this type of boat was also used for military purposes.
