The Hutchinson County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Stinnett .

The county is located in northern Texas, in the Texas Panhandle , and is about 25 miles from the Oklahoma border. It has an area of ​​2318 square kilometers, of which 20 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Hansford County , Roberts County , Carson County, and Moore Counties .

history

Hutchinson County was formed August 21, 1876 from parts of Bexar County. The administrative organization was completed on May 13, 1901. It was named after Anderson Hutchinson (1798-1853), a Mississippi lawyer and writer who was a district judge in the Republic of Texas in 1841 . The following year he was arrested by the Mexican Army while he was trial in San Antonio . In 1843 he was released and returned to Mississippi.

According to the 2000 census , Hutchinson County had 23,857 people in 9,283 households and 6,869 families. The population density was 10 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 87.00 percent white, 2.41 percent African American, 1.35 percent Native American, 0.35 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 6.66 percent from other ethnic groups ; 2.21 percent were descended from two or more races. 14.70 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 9,283 households, 34.8 percent had children or young people living with them. 61.4 percent were married couples living together, 9.1 percent were single mothers, and 26.0 percent were non-families. 23.9 percent were single households and 11.9 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.00 people.

27.4 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 8.7 percent between 18 and 24, 25.5 percent between 25 and 44, 22.7 percent between 45 and 64 and 15.6 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 97 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 93.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $ 36,588 , and the median income for a family is $ 42,500. Males had a median income of $ 40,029 versus $ 19,952 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,317. 8.8 percent of families and 11.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
