The McLennan County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Waco .
geography
The county is located about 80 km northeast of the geographic center of Texas and has an area of 2,746 square kilometers, of which 48 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Hill County , Limestone County , Falls County , Bell County , Coryell County, and Bosque County .
history
McLennan County was formed on January 22, 1850 from parts of Limestone County and Milam County . The administrative organization was completed on August 5th of the same year. It was named after Neil McLennan (1777-1867), a land surveyor who settled in Texas in 1835 and moved to Waco in 1845.

According to the 2000 census , McLennan County had 213,517 people in 78,859 households and 52,914 families. The population density was 79 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 72.17 percent white, 15.19 percent African American, 0.49 percent Native American, 1.07 percent Asian, 0.05 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 9.21 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.83 percent were descended from two or more races. 17.91 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 78,859 households, 33.0 percent had children or young people living with them. 49.7 percent were married couples living together, 13.6 percent were single mothers and 32.9 percent were non-families. 26.0 percent were single households and 9.7 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.59 and the average family size was 3.15 people.
26.6 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 14.6 percent between 18 and 24, 26.4 percent between 25 and 44, 19.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 12.9 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 94.1 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 90.2 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 33,560 , and the median income for a family is $ 41,414. Males had a median income of $ 30,906 versus $ 21,978 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,174. 12.4 percent of families and 17.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
