The Marion County is a county in the US state of Texas . The county seat is in Jefferson .

The county is located in northeast Texas on the Louisiana border and about 6 miles from the Arkansas border . It has an area of 1089 square kilometers, of which 101 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by the following counties and parishes:

Morris County	Cass County
Upshur County		Caddo Parish (Louisiana)
	Harrison County

history

Marion County was formed on February 8, 1860 from parts of Cass County. It was named after Francis Marion (1732–1795), a general in the American Revolutionary War nicknamed "Swamp Fox" and a member of the South Carolina Senate .

According to the 2010 census , Marion County had 10,546 people in 4,989 households. The population density was 10.7 inhabitants per square kilometer.

The racial the population was composed of 73.5 percent white, 22.0 percent African American, 0.8 percent Native American, 0.5 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 2.1 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 3.1 percent of the population. Statistically speaking, there were 2.09 people in each of the 4,989 households.

20.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 58.8 percent were between 18 and 64 and 21.2 percent were 65 years or older. 51.6 percent of the population was female.
