The Hunt County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Greenville . The county is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area .

The county is located in northeast Texas and is approximately 50 km north of Oklahoma . It has an area of 2284 square kilometers, of which 106 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Fannin County , Delta County , Hopkins County , Rains County , Van Zandt County , Rockwall County, and Collin Counties .
history
Hunt County was formed in 1846 from parts of Fannin County and Nacogdoches County . It was named after Memucan Hunt , a Secretary of the Navy for the Republic of Texas .
Seven structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of November 8, 2019, including the President's House .

After the census in 2000 lived in Hunt County 76,596 people; 28,742 households and 20,521 families were counted. The population density was 35 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 83.57 percent white, 9.45 percent African American, 0.73 percent Native American, 0.54 percent Asian, 0.07 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 3.93 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.70 percent were descended from two or more races. 8.31 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 28,742 households, 32.9 percent had children or young people living with them. 56.2 percent were married couples living together, 11.0 percent were single mothers and 28.6 percent were non-families. 24.1 percent were single households and 9.6 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.08 people.
26.5 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 10.0 percent between 18 and 24, 28.0 percent between 25 and 44, 22.8 percent between 45 and 64 and 12.6 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 98.1 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 95.3 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 36,752 , and the median income for a family is $ 44,388. Males had a median income of $ 33,347 versus $ 23,085 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,554. 8.6 percent of families and 12.8 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
