The Jackson County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Edna .
geography
The county is located in southwest Texas, about 40 km off the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of 2220 square kilometers, of which 71 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Colorado County , Wharton County , Matagorda County , Calhoun County , Victoria County, and Lavaca County .
history
Jackson County was formed as the original county in 1836. It was named after Andrew Jackson , the seventh President of the United States.
Five structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of November 20, 2019, including the Texana Presbyterian Church .

According to the 2000 census , Jackson County had 14,391 people. 255 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 5,336 households and 3,889 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 76.49 percent white, 7.64 percent African American, 0.39 percent Native American, 0.39 percent Asian, 0.06 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 12.65 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.39 percent were from two or more races. 24.68 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 5,336 households, 34.7 percent had children or young people living with them. 58.2 percent were married couples living together, 10.5 percent were single mothers, and 27.1 percent were non-families. 24.2 percent were single households and 12.5 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.15 people.
27.4 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 8.2 percent between 18 and 24, 26.1 percent between 25 and 44, 22.3 percent between 45 and 64 and 15.9 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 96.7 males and for every 100 females aged 18 years or over there were 93.4 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 35,254 , and the median income for a family was $ 42,066. Males had a median income of $ 32,639 versus $ 19,661 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,693. 12.2 percent of families and 14.7 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
