The Aransas County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Rockport .
geography
The county is located in southeast Texas, on the Gulf of Mexico and has an area of 1367 square kilometers, of which 715 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Calhoun County , San Patricio County, and Refugio County .
history
Aransas County was formed on September 18, 1871 from parts of Refugio County. It was named after Rio Nuestra Senora de Aranzazu , a Spanish outpost in early Texas, or possibly after the town of Aransas Pass or Aransas Bay .
The first European to see this country was probably Alonso Álvarez de Pineda , who sailed along the coast of Texas in the summer of 1519 and also explored the Aransas Bay.
Five buildings in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of September 18, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Aransas County had 22,497 people in 9,132 households and 6,401 families. The population density was 34 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 87.44 percent white, 1.43 percent African American, 0.58 percent Native American, 2.77 percent Asian, 0.05 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 5.33 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.39 percent were descended from two or more races. 20.32 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 9,132 households, 27.0 percent had children or young people living with them. 57.0 percent were married couples living together, 9.4 percent were single mothers and 29.9 percent were non-families. 25.3 percent were single households and 11.6 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.90 people.
23.8 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 6.2 percent between 18 and 24, 23.2 percent between 25 and 44, 27.1 percent between 45 and 64 and 19.7 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 98.9 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 95.5 males.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 30,702 , and the median income for a family is $ 34,915. Males had a median income of $ 31,597 versus $ 20,289 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,560. 15.5 percent of families and 19.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
