Fulton is a small town with a status of " Town " in Aransas County in the US state of Texas .
geography
The city is located directly on Aransas Bay , which is separated from the Gulf of Mexico by the offshore San José Island . Fulton adjoins the southern city of Rockport and is located approximately 55 kilometers northeast of Corpus Christi and 200 kilometers southeast of San Antonio . The Texas State Highway 35 runs right through Fulton.
history
In the middle of the 19th century , settlers under the leadership of land developer George W. Fulton settled in the area. In his honor the place was named Fulton in 1866. The livelihood of the inhabitants was initially the shipping of beef tallow and other goods.
The processing of prawns ( shrimps ) and oysters ( oysters ) are today the most important branches of the economy alongside tourism.
Due to the mild climate and the idyllic location, Fulton increasingly developed into the retirement home of many Americans, which significantly increased the average age of the residents.
Historic buildings and landmarks
The George W. Fulton Mansion and the Kent-Crane Shell Midden are on the list of entries on the National Register of Historic Places in Aransas County .

In 2013 a population of 1429 people was determined. This corresponds to a population decrease of 8.0% compared to the year 2000. The average age of 53.2 years in 2013 was significantly above the value of Texas, which was 30.8 years.
