The Morris County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Daingerfield . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in northeast Texas, about 30 km to the north from Oklahoma and about 40 km to the east from Arkansas . It has an area of 670 square kilometers, of which 11 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Bowie County , Cass County , Marion County , Upshur County , Camp County , Titus County, and Red River County .
history
Morris County was formed on March 6, 1875 from parts of Titus County. It was named after William Wright Morris (1805-1883), a member of the State Legislature of the Republic of Texas , district judge and promoter of railroad construction in East Texas .
One structure in the county is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of March 26, 2020, the Old Morris County Courthouse .

As of the 2000 census , there were 13,048 people in Morris County. 166 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 5,215 households and 3,749 families. The population density was 20 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 71.71 percent white, 24.13 percent African American, 0.53 percent Native American, 0.18 percent Asian, 0.06 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 2.28 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.12 percent were from two or more races. 3.66 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 5,215 households, 29.5 percent had children or young people living with them. 53.9 percent were married couples living together, 14.1 percent were single mothers and 28.1 percent were non-families. 25.8 percent were single households and 13.2 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.47 and the average family size was 2.95 people.
25.2 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 7.8 percent between 18 and 24, 24.3 percent between 25 and 44, 24.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 18.3 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 92.7 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 87.4 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 29,011 , and the median income for a family is $ 35,326. Males had a median income of $ 30,917 versus $ 20,270 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,612. 14.9 percent of families and 18.3 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
