The Camp County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is in Pittsburg .
Geography and history
The county is northeast of the geographic center of Texas, approximately 70 km from Oklahoma , Arkansas and Louisiana . It has an area of 526 square kilometers, of which 23 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Titus County , Morris County , Upshur County , Wood County, and Franklin Counties .
Camp County was formed on April 6, 1874 from parts of Upshur County. It was named after John Lafayette Camp (1828-1891), an officer in the Confederate Army in the Civil War and a member of the Texas Senate .
One place in the county is listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) as of October 17, 2018, the Pittsburg Commercial Historic District .

As of the 2000 census , Camp County had 11,549 people in 4,336 households and 3,156 families. The population density was 23 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 69.53 percent white, 19.20 percent African American, 0.35 percent Native American, 0.17 percent Asian, 0.05 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 9.63 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.07 percent were descended from two or more races. 14.78 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 4,336 households, 31.5 percent had children or young people living with them. 56.2 percent were married couples living together, 12.5 percent were single mothers and 27.2 percent were non-families. 24.2 percent were single households and 11.8 percent had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.09 people.
26.9 percent of the population was under 18 years old, 8.5 percent between 18 and 24, 25.5 percent between 25 and 44, 22.8 percent between 45 and 64 and 16.3 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 96.2 males and for every 100 females age 18 or over there were 91.9 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 31,164 , and the median income for a family was $ 36,142. Males had a median income of $ 31,870 versus $ 18,797 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,500. 15.9 percent of families and 20.9 percent of the population lived below the poverty line . In the United States, the poverty line (2010) was $ 11,344 annual income.
