The Wilbarger County is a county in the state of Texas of the United States . The county seat is Vernon .

The county is located in north Texas, borders Oklahoma to the north and has an area of 2533 square kilometers, of which 18 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Jackson County and Tillman Counties , both in Oklahoma, Wichita Counties , Baylor Counties , and Foard Counties .

history

Wilbarger County was formed in 1858 from parts of Bexar County . It was named after Josia and Mathias Wilbarger , two brothers and early settlers in the area.

The racial the population was composed of 78.17 percent white, 8.86 percent African American, 0.66 percent Native American, 0.63 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 9.73 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.91 percent were descended from two or more races. 20.54 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
