The county is located in southwest Oklahoma, borders Texas to the south and has an area of ​​2083 square kilometers, of which 4 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Greer County , Kiowa County , Tillman County , Wilbarger County, Texas, Hardeman County, Texas, and Harmon County .

Thomas Jonathan Jackson

Jackson County was formed on July 16, 1907 from parts of Greer County and the Oklahoma Territory. It was named after Thomas Jonathan Jackson , a general in the Confederate States of America .

According to the 2000 census , Jackson County had 28,439 people in 10,590 households and 7,667 families. The population density was 14 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 76.14 percent white, 8.03 percent African American, 1.74 percent Native American, 1.16 percent Asian, 0.17 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 9.34 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 3.42 percent were descended from two or more races.
