McIntosh County is a county in the state of Oklahoma in the United States . The county seat is Eufaula .

The county is located in east central Oklahoma and has an area of ​​1,845 square kilometers, of which 240 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Muskogee County , Haskell County , Pittsburg County , Hughes County , Okfuskee County, and Okmulgee Counties .

history

McIntosh County was formed as the original Muskogee County on July 16, 1907 . It was named after the McIntosh family of the Muskogee (Creek) people.

The county has a National Historic Landmark , the Honey Springs Battlefield . 16 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of June 5, 2018).

McIntosh County Age Pyramid

According to the 2000 census , McIntosh County had 19,456 people in 8,085 households and 5,683 families. The population density was 12 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 72.59 percent white, 4.06 percent African American, 16.20 percent Native American, 0.14 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.35 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 6.63 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.27 percent of the population.

The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 91.7 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over, there were 89.3 men.

The median income for a household in the city was $ 25,964 , and the median income for a family was $ 31,990. Males had a median income of $ 27,998 versus $ 19,030 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,410. 13.5 percent of families and 18.2 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
