Texas County is a county in the state of Oklahoma in the United States . The county seat is Guymon .

The county is located almost in the extreme northwest of Oklahoma, borders Kansas to the north and Texas to the south and has an area of ​​5,306 square kilometers, of which 30 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Stevens County, Kansas, Seward County, Kansas, Beaver County , Ochiltree County, Texas, Hansford County, Texas, Sherman County, Texas, Cimarron County, and Morton County, Kansas.

history

Texas County was formed on July 16, 1907 from parts of Beaver County and parts of Oklahoma Territory, known as No Man's Land . It was named after the neighboring state of Texas .

The county has a National Historic Landmark , the Stamper Site archaeological site . 23 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of June 6, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Texas County had 20,107 people in 7,153 households and 5,250 families. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 76.73 percent white, 0.71 percent African American, 1.24 percent Native American, 0.56 percent Asian, 0.10 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 18.11 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.55 percent were descended from two or more races. The median income for a household in the city was $ 35,872 , and the median income for a family was $ 42,226. Males had a median income of $ 26,991 versus $ 20,404 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,692. 10.2 percent of families and 14.1 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
