Delaware County is a county in the state of Oklahoma in the United States . The county seat is Jay .

The county is located almost in the extreme northeast of Oklahoma, borders Arkansas and Missouri to the east and has an area of ​​2052 square kilometers, of which 134 square kilometers are water. In Oklahoma, it is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Ottawa County , Adair County , Cherokee County , Mayes County, and Craig Counties .

history

Delaware County was formed from Cherokee Land on July 16, 1907 as the original county . It was probably named after the origin of some of the settlers, Delaware County in New York .

As of the 2000 census , Delaware County had 37,077 people in 14,838 households and 10,772 families. The population density was 19 inhabitants per square kilometer.
