Harper County is a county in the state of Oklahoma in the United States . The county seat is Buffalo .

The county is located in northwest Oklahoma, borders Kansas to the north and has an area of 2,696 square kilometers, of which 5 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Comanche County, Kansas, Woods County , Woodward County , Ellis County , Beaver County, and Clark County, Kansas.
history
Harper County was formed on July 16, 1907 from parts of Woods County and Woodward County. It was named after Oscar G. Harper , a member of the Constituent Assembly ("Constitunional Convention") of Oklahoma.

According to the 2000 census , Harper County had 3,562 people in 1,509 households and 1,030 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 95.87 percent white, 0.03 percent African American, 0.93 percent Native American, 0.08 percent Asian, 0.03 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 2.36 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.70 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 5.64 percent of the population.
Of the 1,509 households, 28.0 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 58.6 percent were married couples living together, 6.5 percent were single mothers. 31.7 percent were not families, 29.2 percent were single households, and 15.6 percent of the households had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.87 people.
23.3 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 6.4 percent between 18 and 24, 23.4 percent between 25 and 44, 25.2 percent between 45 and 64 and 21.7 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 43 years. For every 100 females there were 96.6 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 95.2 men.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 33,705 , and the median income for a family is $ 40,907. Males had a median income of $ 27,896 versus $ 20,784 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,011. 7.1 percent of families and 10.2 percent of the population are below the poverty line.
