Okmulgee County is a county in the state of Oklahoma in the United States . The county seat is Okmulgee .

The county is located in east central Oklahoma and has an area of ​​1,819 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Tulsa County , Wagoner County , Muskogee County , McIntosh County , Okfuskee County, and Creek Counties .

According to the 2000 census , Okmulgee County had 39,685 people in 15,300 households and 10,694 families. The population density was 22 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 69.73 percent white, 10.20 percent African American, 12.85 percent Native American, 0.19 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.61 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 6.40 percent were descended from two or more races. The median income for a household in the city was $ 27,652 , and the median income for a family was $ 33,987. Males had a median income of $ 29,935 versus $ 20,861 for females. The per capita income was $ 14,065. 14.9 percent of families and 18.9 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
