The Cotton County is a county in the US state of Oklahoma . At the 2010 census , the county had 6,193 people and a population density of 3.8 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Walters .
geography
The county is located in southwest Oklahoma and reaches the Red River to the south , which forms the border with Texas . It has an area of 1,663 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water. The following counties border Cotton County:

history
Cotton County was formed in 1912 from parts of Comanche County and the Oklahoma Territory. It was named after the English word for cotton that was grown in the area. The county was settled by white settlers after an official land lottery on August 1, 1901. The county was the 77th and thus the last county that was formed in Oklahoma.
Three buildings in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of May 28, 2018).

The racial the population was composed of 81.3 percent white, 2.1 percent African American, 8.9 percent Native American, 0.2 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 5.5 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 5.6 percent of the population.
Statistically, there were 2.31 people each in the 2,654 households.
24.6 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 58.4 percent were between 18 and 64 and 17.0 percent were 65 years or older. 50.8 percent of the population was female.
The median income for a household was 43,590 USD . The per capita income was $ 20,410. 16.6 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
