Grady County is a county in the state of Oklahoma in the United States . The county seat is Chickasha .

The county is located southwest of the geographic center of Oklahoma and covers an area of 2,863 square kilometers, of which 11 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Canadian County , McClain County , Garvin County , Stephens County , Comanche County, and Caddo County .
history
Grady County was formed on July 16, 1907 from parts of Pontotoc County, Caddo County, Comanche County and the defunct Pickens County. It was named after Henry W. Grady , an influential journalist for the Atlanta Constitution newspaper . He created the reform catchphrase of the New South .

According to the 2000 census , Grady County had 45,516 people in 17,341 households and 12,797 families. The population density was 16 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 87.31 percent white, 3.06 percent African American, 4.85 percent Native American, 0.34 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 1.12 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 3.28 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.89 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 17,341 households, 34.7 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 60.5 percent were married couples living together, 9.7 percent were single mothers. 26.2 percent were not families, 22.9 percent were single households and people aged 65 years or over lived in 10.5 percent of the households. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.02 people.
26.7 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 9.3 percent between 18 and 24, 27.7 percent between 25 and 44, 23.2 percent between 45 and 64 and 13.1 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 95.3 males. For every 100 women aged 18 years or over, there were 91.3 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 32,625 , and the median income for a family is $ 39,636. Males had a median income of $ 30,306 versus $ 21,108 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,846. 10.4 percent of families and 13.9 percent of the population are below the poverty line.
