Love County is a county in the state of Oklahoma in the United States . The county seat is Marietta .

The county is located in southern Oklahoma, borders Texas and has an area of ​​1,378 square kilometers, of which 43 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Carter County , Marshall County , Coke County, Texas, Montague County, Texas, and Jefferson County .

history

Love County was formed on July 16, 1907 as the original county from Chickasaw Land. It was named after Overton Love , a Chickasaw judge.

Six buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of June 3, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Love County had 8,831 people in 3,442 households and 2,557 families. The population density was 7 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 84.15 percent white, 2.19 percent African American, 6.41 percent Native American, 0.26 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 3.58 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 3.41 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 7.01 percent of the population.

The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 2.97 people.

25.7 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 7.0 percent between 18 and 24, 25.4 percent between 25 and 44, 25.7 percent between 45 and 64 and 16.2 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 98.2 males. For every 100 women aged 18 years or over, there were 94.9 men.

The median income for a household in the city was $ 32,558 , and the median income for a family was $ 38,212. Males had a median income of $ 30,024 versus $ 20,578 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,648. 8.8 percent of families and 11.8 percent of the population are below the poverty line.
