Woods County is a county in the state of Oklahoma in the United States . The county seat is Alva .

The county is located in northwest Oklahoma, borders Kansas to the north and has an area of ​​3,341 square kilometers, of which 9 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Comanche County, Kansas, Barber County, Kansas, Alfalfa County , Major County , Woodward County , and Harper County .

history

Woods County was formed in 1893 as the original Cherokee County . It was named after Sam Wood , a Canadian businessman and politician. The county was settled by white settlers during the fourth official land occupation ( Oklahoma Land Run ) on September 16, 1893.

The Central National Bank is one of the county's 14 entries in the NRHP.
