Wagoner County is a county in the state of Oklahoma in the United States . The county seat is Wagoner .

The county is located in northeastern Oklahoma and has an area of ​​1,531 square kilometers, of which 73 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Rogers County , Mayes County , Cherokee County , Muskogee County, and Tulsa County .

history

Wagoner County was formed on July 16, 1907 as the original county from Muskogee Land. It was named, like the district capital, after Bailey P. Wagoner , a dispatcher for the Missouri Pacific Railway Company . Wagoner was responsible for setting up a switch , around which Wagoner developed.

According to the 2000 census , Wagoner County had 57,491 people in 21,010 households and 16,702 families. The population density was 39 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 80.07 percent white, 3.75 percent African American, 9.38 percent Native American, 0.51 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.85 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 5.41 percent were descended from two or more races. The median income for a household in the city was $ 41,744 , and the median income for a family was $ 47,062. Males had a median income of $ 36,419 versus $ 23,546 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,272. 6.7 percent of families and 8.9 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
