The Blaine County is a county in the US state of Oklahoma . At the 2010 census , the county had 11,943 people and a population density of 5 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Watonga , which was named after a chief of the Arapaho .

The county is located northwest of the geographic center of Oklahoma and has an area of 2,432 square kilometers, of which 27 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following counties:

history
Blaine County was formed as the original Free Territory County in 1892. The county was settled by white settlers during the third official land occupation ( Oklahoma Land Run ) on April 19, 1892. It was named after James Gillespie Blaine (1830-1893), a US Senator (1876-1881), US Secretary of State (1881, 1889–1892) and, as a member of the Democratic Republican Party, US presidential candidate in 1884.

As of the 2000 census , Blaine County had 11,976 people in 4,159 households and 2,865 families. The population density was 5 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 76.29 percent white, 6.65 percent African American, 8.70 percent Native American, 0.71 percent Asian, 0.81 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 2.86 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 3.97 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups were 6.62 percent of the population.
Of the 4,159 households, 30.8 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 56.2 percent were married couples living together, 8.6 percent were single mothers. 31.1 percent were not families, 29.0 percent were single households, and 15.5 percent of the households had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.08.
24.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 9.1 percent between 18 and 24, 28.6 percent between 25 and 44, 21.4 percent between 45 and 64 and 16.8 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 119.3 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over, there were 125.0 men.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 28,356 , and the median income for a family was $ 34,565. Males had a median income of $ 26,284 versus $ 18,619 for females. The per capita income was $ 13,546. 12.8 percent of families and 16.9 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
