Marshall County is a county in the state of Oklahoma in the United States . The county seat is Madill .

The county is located in southern Oklahoma, bordering Texas and has an area of ​​1106 square kilometers, of which 145 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Johnston County , Bryan County , Grayson County, Texas, Love County, and Carter County .

history

Marshall County was formed from Chickasaw Land on July 16, 1907 as the original county . It was named after Elizabeth Ellen Marshall Henshaw, the mother of George Henshaw . Henshaw was a delegate to the Oklahoma Constituent Assembly .

Five buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of June 4, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , Marshall County had 13,184 people in 5,371 households and 3,802 families. The population density was 14 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 77.99 percent white, 1.84 percent African American, 9.10 percent Native American, 0.19 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 6.17 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 4.71 percent were descended from two or more races. 8.60 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

The median income for a household in the city was $ 26,437 , and the median income for a family was $ 31,825. Males had a median income of $ 25,201 versus women of $ 19,932. The per capita income was $ 14,982. 13.5 percent of families and 17.9 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
