The Canadian County is a county in the US state of Oklahoma . At the 2010 census , the county had 115,541 people and a population density of 49.6 people per square kilometer. The county seat is El Reno , named after Jesse Lee Reno , a general killed in the American Civil War .
Canadian County is part of the Greater Oklahoma City metropolitan area .

The county is located just west of the geographic center of Oklahoma and has an area of 2,344 square kilometers, of which 14 square kilometers are water. It borders on the following counties:

history
The Canadian County was formed on May 2, 1890 as the original county on former Indian land. It was named after the Canadian River that flows through the county. The county was settled by white settlers during the first official land occupation ( Oklahoma Land Run ) on April 22, 1889. Here, in 1875, the last great battle in Oklahoma between Cheyenne, Arapaho and the US Army took place.

As of the 2000 census , the Canadian County had 87,697 people in 31,484 households and 24,431 families. The population density was 38 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 87.01 percent white, 2.16 percent African American, 4.27 percent Native American, 2.45 percent Asian, 0.05 percent from the Pacific island area and 1.35 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.72 percent were descended from two or more races. 3.86 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any of the above mentioned groups.
Of the 31,484 households, 39.8 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 64.3 percent were married couples living together, 9.7 percent were single mothers. 22.4 percent were not families, 19.2 percent were single households and 7.1 percent of the households had people aged 65 years or over. The average household size was 2.71 and the average family size was 3.10 people.
28.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 8.2 percent between 18 and 24, 30.7 percent between 25 and 44, 23.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 9.5 percent were 65 years or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were statistically 99.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 or over there were 97.7 men.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 45,439 , and the median income for a family was $ 51,180. Males had a median income of $ 35,944 versus $ 24,631 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,691. 5.8 percent of families and 7.9 percent of the population are below the poverty line.
