Washington County is a county in the state of Oklahoma in the United States . The county seat is Bartlesville .

The county is located in northeast Oklahoma, borders Kansas to the north and has an area of ​​1099 square kilometers, of which 19 square kilometers are water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Montgomery County, Kansas, Nowata County , Rogers County , Tulsa County , Osage County, and Chautauqua Counties, Kansas.

history

Washington County was created in 1897 as the original Cherokee County . It was named after George Washington , the first President of the United States.

In the county is a National Historic Landmark , the Price Tower built by Frank Lloyd Wright . Nine structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) (as of June 5, 2018).

As of the 2000 census , Washington County had 48,996 people in 20,179 households and 14,024 families. The population density was 45 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 81.17 percent white, 2.49 percent African American, 8.60 percent Native American, 0.74 percent Asian, 0.01 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.91 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 6.07 percent were descended from two or more races.
