Comanche County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Coldwater . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in southern Kansas, bordering Oklahoma and has an area of 2045 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers are water. In Kansas, it is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Kiowa County , Barber County, and Clark Counties .
history
Comanche County was formed on February 26, 1867 from parts of Kiowa County. It was named after the Comanche Indian people .

According to the 2000 census , there were 1967 people in 872 households and 540 families in Comanche County. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.97 percent white, 0.05 percent African American, 0.25 percent Native American, 0.05 percent Asian, 0.20 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.61 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.86 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 1.78 percent of the population.
Of the 872 households, 24.4 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 54.4 percent were married couples living together, 6.2 percent were single mothers, and 38.0 percent were non-families. 35.9 percent of all households were single households and 21.2 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.18 and the average family size was 2.81 people.
22.1 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 4.5 percent between 18 and 24 years, 21.0 percent between 25 and 44 years, 26.5 percent between 45 and 64 years and 25.8 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 47 years. For every 100 females there were 93.6 males. For every 100 adult women aged 18 and over there were 87.5 men.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 29,415 , and the median income for a family is $ 36,790. Males had a median income of $ 24,844 versus $ 18,221 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,037.
