Rush County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is La Crosse .

The county is located slightly west of the geographic center and has an area of ​​1861 square kilometers, of which one square kilometer is water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Ellis County , Russell County , Barton County , Pawnee County, and Ness County .

history

Rush County was formed on February 26, 1867. It was named after Alexander Rush , an officer in the American Civil War .

As of the 2000 census , Rush County had 3,551 people in 1,548 households and 1,013 families in Rush County. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.45 percent white, 0.31 percent African American, 0.42 percent Native American, 0.11 percent Asian and 0.17 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.54 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.04 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
