Stanton County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Johnson City . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located almost in the extreme southwest of Kansas, borders Colorado to the west , is about 45 km from Oklahoma to the south and has an area of 1,761 square kilometers with no significant water surface. In Kansas, it is bordered clockwise by counties: Hamilton County , Kearny Counties , Grant Counties , Stevens Counties , and Morton Counties .
history
Stanton County was formed on June 17, 1887. It was named after Edwin M. Stanton , a US politician and Secretary of War under US President Abraham Lincoln .

According to the 2000 census , Stanton County's population was 2,406. 55 of them lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 858 households and 638 families in Stanton County. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 84.4 percent white, 0.6 percent African American, 1.2 percent Native American, 0.2 percent Asian and 12.5 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.1 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 23.7 percent of the population.
Of the 858 households, 40.2 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 63.5 percent were married couples living together, 6.8 percent were single mothers, and 25.6 percent were non-families. 22.6 percent of all households were single households and 9.0 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.74 and the average family size was 3.21 people.
30.8 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 8.4 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 28.3 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 19.5 percent between 45 and 64 years of age, and 13.0 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 104.1 males. For every 100 adult women aged 18 and over there were 103.2 men.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 40,172 , and the median income for a family is $ 46,300. Males had a median income of $ 30,236 versus $ 21,250 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,043. 10.7 percent of families and 14.9 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
