Stanton County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Johnson City . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located almost in the extreme southwest of Kansas, borders Colorado to the west , is about 45 km from Oklahoma to the south and has an area of ​​1,761 square kilometers with no significant water surface. In Kansas, it is bordered clockwise by counties: Hamilton County , Kearny Counties , Grant Counties , Stevens Counties , and Morton Counties .

history

Stanton County was formed on June 17, 1887. It was named after Edwin M. Stanton , a US politician and Secretary of War under US President Abraham Lincoln .
