Woodson County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Yates Center . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in central southwest Kansas and has an area of ​​1309 square kilometers, of which 13 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Coffey County , Anderson County , Allen County , Neosho County , Wilson County, and Greenwood Counties .

history

Woodson County was formed in 1855 and is one of the first 33 counties to be formed by the first Territorial Administration. It was named after Daniel Woodson , a governor of the Kansas Territory.

According to the 2000 census , Woodson County had 3,788 people in 1,642 households and 1,052 families in Woodson County. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer.
