Phillips County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Phillipsburg .

The county is located in northern Kansas, bordering Nebraska and has an area of 2318 square kilometers, of which 22 square kilometers are water. In Kansas, it is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Smith County , Rooks County , Graham County, and Norton Counties .
history
Phillips County was formed on February 26, 1867. It was named after William Phillips, an activist and opponent of slavery .

According to the 2000 census , Phillips County had 6,001 people in 2,496 households and 1,722 families in Phillips County. The population density was 3 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 98.25 percent white, 0.25 percent African American, 0.30 percent Native American, 0.45 percent Asian and 0.03 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.72 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 0.67 percent of the population.
Of the 2,496 households, 28.3 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 61.5 percent were married couples living together, 5.5 percent were single mothers, and 31.0 percent were non-families. 28.6 percent of all households were single households and 15.8 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.35 and the average family size was 2.89 people.
24.5 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 5.7 percent between 18 and 24 years, 23.2 percent between 25 and 44 years, 24.8 percent between 45 and 64 years and 21.8 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 42 years. For every 100 females there were 94.8 males. For every 100 adult women aged 18 and over there were 91.2 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 35,013 , and the median income for a family is $ 41,638. Males had a median income of $ 29,609 versus $ 17,827 for females. The per capita income was $ 17,121.
