The Franklin County is a county in the US state of Kansas . At the 2010 census , the county had 25,992 residents and a population density of 17.5 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Ottawa .

Franklin County is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area .

The county is located in eastern Kansas, about 25 miles from Missouri , and has an area of 1,494 square kilometers, of which seven square kilometers are water. It borders on the following counties:

B. Franklin

Franklin County was formed as the original county on August 30, 1855, making it one of the first 33 counties to be formed by the first territorial administration. It was named after Benjamin Franklin (1706–1790), one of the founding fathers of the USA.

The racial the population was composed of 93.7 percent white, 1.3 percent African American, 0.8 percent Native American, 0.4 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 2.8 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, 3.6 percent of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race.

25.5 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 61.6 percent were between 18 and 64 and 12.9 percent were 65 years or older. 49.9 percent of the population was female.
