Sheridan County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Hoxie . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in central northwest Kansas, about 45 km north of Nebraska , and covers an area of ​​2,322 square kilometers, one square kilometer of which is water. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Decatur County , Norton County , Graham County , Gove County, and Thomas County .

history

Sheridan County was formed on 1880. It was named after Philip Sheridan , a lieutenant general of the Northern States in the American Civil War .

According to the 2000 census , there were 2,813 people in Sheridan County. Of these, 44 lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 1,124 households and 795 families in Sheridan County. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer.
