Crawford County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Girard .

The county is located almost in the extreme southeast of Kansas, borders Missouri to the east , is about 25 miles from Oklahoma to the south and has an area of ​​1,541 square kilometers, of which six square kilometers are water. In Kansas, it is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Bourbon County , Cherokee County , Labette County, and Neosho Counties .

history

Crawford County was formed on February 13, 1867 from parts of Bourbon County and Cherokee County. It was named after Samuel J. Crawford , the third governor of Kansas.

According to the 2000 census , Crawford County had 38,242 people in 15,504 households and 9,441 families in Crawford County. The population density was 25 inhabitants per square kilometer.
