Rawlins County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Atwood .

The county is located almost in the extreme northwest of Kansas, borders Nebraska in the north , is about 50 km from Oklahoma in the west and has an area of ​​2,771 square kilometers with no significant water surface. In Kansas, it is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Decatur County , Thomas County , Sherman County, and Cheyenne Counties .

history

Rawlins County was formed on March 20, 1873. It was named after John Aaron Rawlins , a general of the Northern States in the American Civil War , confidante of Ulysses S. Grant and later Secretary of War of the United States.

Two of the county's structures are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of August 30, 2017).

Rawlins County had a population of 2,966 people as of the 2000 census . 96 of these people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 1269 households and 846 families.
