Hodgeman County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Jetmore .

The county is located in central southwest Kansas and has an area of 2228 square kilometers, of which one square kilometer is water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Ness County , Pawnee County , Edwards County , Ford County , Gray County, and Finney County .
history
Hodgeman County was formed on February 26, 1867. It was named after Amos Hodgman , an officer in the American Civil War .
Three of the county's structures are on the National Register of Historic Places (as of August 30, 2017).

As of the 2000 census , Hodgeman County had 2,085 people in 796 households and 581 families in Hodgeman County. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.31 percent white, 0.91 percent African American, 0.24 percent Native American and 0.48 percent from other ethnic groups; 1.06 percent were descended from two or more races. 2.69 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 796 households, 34.7 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 65.1 percent were married couples living together, 4.4 percent were single mothers, and 27.0 percent were non-families. 24.7 percent of all households were single households and 14.2 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.09 people.
29.0 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 4.7 percent between 18 and 24 years, 25.2 percent between 25 and 44 years, 22.1 percent between 45 and 64 years and 19.0 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 97.3 males. For every 100 adult women aged 18 and over there were 96.9 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 35,994 , and the median income for a family is $ 39,358. Males had a median income of $ 27,568 versus $ 21,534 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,599.
10.7 percent of families and 11.5 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
