Greeley County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . At the 2010 census , the county had 1,247 people and a population density of 0.6 people per square kilometer. The county seat is the Tribune . The county is part of the dry counties , which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

The county is located in the extreme west of Kansas, borders Colorado and has an area of 2015 square kilometers with no significant water surface. In Kansas, it is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Wallace County , Wichita County, and Hamilton Counties .
history
Greeley County was formed on March 20, 1873. It was named after Horace Greeley , an American newspaper publisher and politician, editor of the New York Tribune , who coined the expression: "Go West, Young Man!"
The Greeley County Courthouse is the county's only entry on the National Register of Historic Places (as of August 29, 2017).

According to the 2000 census , Greeley County had 1,534 people. Of these, 27 people lived in collective accommodation, the other residents lived in 602 households and 414 families. The population density was 1 person per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 93.1 percent white, 0.2 percent African American, 0.3 percent Native American, 0.1 percent Asian, 0.1 percent from the Pacific island area and 5.2 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.0 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.5 percent of the population.
Of the 602 households, 34.2 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 61.1 percent were married couples living together, 4.5 percent were single mothers, and 31.2 percent were non-families. 28.6 percent of all households were single households and 12.8 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.50 and the average family size was 3.10 people.
28.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 6.8 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 27.3 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 19.9 percent between 45 and 64 years of age, and 17.7 percent were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 98.4 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 92.8 men.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 34,605 , and the median income for a family is $ 45,625. Males had a median income of $ 29,018 versus $ 18,984 for females. The per capita income was $ 19,974. 8.2 percent of families and 11.6 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
