Ford County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Dodge City .

The county is located in central southwest Kansas, about 55 km south of Oklahoma , and has an area of 2,847 square kilometers, of which two square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Hodgeman County , Edwards County , Kiowa County , Clark County , Meade County, and Gray County .
history
Ford County was formed on March 6, 1873 from parts of Marion County and Free Territory. It was named after James H. Ford , an officer in the American Civil War .
Ford County has a National Historic Landmark , the Santa Fe Trail Remains . A total of 13 structures and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places .

According to the 2000 census , Ford County had 32,458 people in 10,852 households and 7,856 families in Ford County. The population density was 11 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 74.85 percent white, 1.62 percent African American, 0.63 percent Native American, 2.05 percent Asian, 0.12 percent from the Pacific island area and 18.17 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 2.56 percent were descended from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 37.68 percent of the population.
Of the 10,852 households, 40.9 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 57.9 percent were married couples living together, 9.2 percent were single mothers, and 27.6 percent were non-families. 22.7 percent of all households were single households and 9.5 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.92 and the average family size was 3.42 people.
31.1 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 11.2 percent between 18 and 24 years, 29.4 percent between 25 and 44 years, 17.3 percent between 45 and 64 years and 11.0 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 107.2 males. For every 100 adult women aged 18 and over there were 105.3 men.
The median income for a household in the city was $ 37,860 , and the median income for a family was $ 42,734. Males had a median income of $ 27,189 versus $ 22,165 for females. The per capita income was $ 15,721. 9.9 percent of families and 12.4 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
