Kingman County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Kingman .

The county is located in southern Kansas, about 25 miles from Oklahoma , and covers an area of 2,245 square kilometers, of which nine square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Reno County , Sedgwick County , Sumner County , Harper County , Barber County, and Pratt Counties .
history
Kingman County was formed on March 7, 1872. It was named after Samuel A. Kingman , a presiding judge on the Kansas Supreme Court .

As of the 2000 census , Kingman County had 8,673 people in 3,371 households and 2,420 families in Kingman County. The population density was 4 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.45 percent white, 0.21 percent African American, 0.58 percent Native American, 0.24 percent Asian, 0.02 percent of residents from the Pacific island area and 0.35 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 1.15 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.44 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 3,371 households, 32.4 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 61.9 percent were married couples living together, 7.1 percent were single mothers, and 28.2 percent were non-families. 26.0 percent of all households were single households and 13.8 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.51 and the average family size was 3.03.
27.4 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 5.8 percent between 18 and 24 years, 24.7 percent between 25 and 44 years, 22.5 percent between 45 and 64 years and 19.6 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 96.3 males. For every 100 adult women aged 18 and over there were 93.5 men.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 37,790 , and the median income for a family is $ 44,547. Males had a median income of $ 31,771 versus $ 25,298 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,533. 8.4 percent of families and 10.6 percent of the population were below the poverty line.
