The name is used in English , Spanish, and Portuguese and is a feminine form of Callistus . As an English name, it could also be a variant of Callisto. This in turn is derived from the Greek καλλιστος (kallistos), which means most beautiful , a derivation from καλος (kalos), which means beautiful . In Greek mythology, Callisto was a nymph loved by Zeus . She was transformed into a she-bear by Hera and later into the constellation of the Great Bear .
