Anderson County is a county in the eastern state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Garnett .

The county is located in eastern Kansas, about 25 miles from the Missouri state line, and covers an area of 1,513 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Franklin County , Miami County , Linn County , Bourbon County , Allen County , Woodson County, and Coffey County .
history
Anderson County was formed as the original county on August 30, 1855 and is one of the first 33 counties to be formed by the first territorial administration. It was named after Joseph C. Anderson , a US politician.

According to the 2000 census , Anderson County had 8,110 people in 3,221 households and 2,264 families in Anderson County. The population density was 5 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 97.41 percent white, 0.32 percent African American, 0.74 percent Native American, 0.22 percent Asian, 0.02 percent from the Pacific island area and 0.33 percent from other ethnic groups Groups; 0.95 percent were descended from two or more races. 1.09 percent of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 3,221 households, 31.0 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them. 59.9 percent were married couples living together, 6.9 percent were single mothers, and 29.7 percent were non-families. 26.8 percent of all households were single households and 15.6 percent had people aged 65 or over. The average household size was 2.48 and the average family size was 3.00 people.
26.2 percent of the population were under 18 years old. 7.0 percent between 18 and 24 years of age, 24.6 percent between 25 and 44 years of age, 22.1 percent between 45 and 64 years of age, and 20.0 percent were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 96.7 males. For every 100 adult women aged 18 and over there were 93.5 men.
The median income for a household in the city is $ 33,244 , and the median income for a family is $ 39,101. Males had a median income of $ 30,102 versus $ 20,705 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,458.
10.6 percent of families and 12.8 percent of the population are below the poverty line.
