Edwards County is a county in the state of Kansas in the United States . The county seat is Kinsley .

The county is located just southwest of the geographic center of Kansas and covers an area of ​​1,611 square kilometers with no significant water surface. It is bordered by counties in a clockwise direction: Pawnee County , Stafford County , Pratt County , Kiowa County , Ford County, and Hodgeman Counties .

history

Edwards County was formed on March 7, 1874 from parts of Kiowa County. It was named after John H. Edwards , a US politician.

As of the 2000 census , Edwards County had 3,449 people in 1,455 households and 955 families in Edwards County. The population density was 2 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 92.52 percent white, 0.32 percent African American, 0.49 percent Native American, 0.32 percent Asian and 5.57 percent from other ethnic groups; 0.78 percent were descended from two or more races.
